Let The Search Engines Tell You How To Get To Page One

It can be very easy to try and reinvent the wheel when it comes to trying to get your site to page one of the search engines. You can spend hours on end looking for places that you can get a link to point back to your site. There is, however, an easier way and the search engines themselves will give you the answers to what links are going to be the best for you.

The search engines already know which are the best links for a particular keyword phrase. By analyzing the sites that are already on page one for the term you are targeting you can outrank them. Finding out who is linking to these top sites will give you a good road map for trying to get the same kinds of links to your site.

There are professional tools you can use to do this but Yahoo offers a great free tool called Yahoo Site Explorer. This simple tool will show you all of the links that point to a site that Yahoo knows about.

To use it simply do a search using your favorite search engine for the keyword phrase you are trying to rank for. Pick one of the top ten results and enter their web address into the Yahoo tool. Next you will want to click on “Inlinks”. Then choose “Except From This Domain” from the first drop down menu and “Entire Site’ from the second drop down menu.

What you should see is all incoming links to this site. You can then visit these sites to see if you can add your link to them. If it is a directory then submit to your site to it. If it is a blog send them content and ask for a link in return.
